Kokum Butter, Nature’s Beauty Secret
There are a few butters out there that are commonly known for moisturizing hair and skin. Shea butter and Cocoa are prime examples, but how many of us have heard of Kokum butter? Not many, including myself until recent years, has had any clue of its existence. I stumbled upon this obscure seed while surfing the web and discovered its many benefits.
What is it?
Kokum butter is an oil extracted from the fruit seed of a Kokum tree. They are predominantly found in India. Its texture is a bit harder than its counterparts, but it is also extremely moisturizing. As it is light weight and non-greasy, this makes it a wonderful ingredient to include in cosmetics.
Skin Benefits
Kokum butter has healing and anti-inflammatory properties. It is non-comedogenic and fragrance free, making it a good option for those with sensitive skin. It contains fatty acids (Omega 3, Omega 6), vitamin E and antioxidants which aide in hydrating the skin, banishing dryness. Kokum butter is also known to support skin cell regeneration and diminish signs of aging. No doubt this would make a great addition to anyone’s skincare routine.
Hair Benefits
As previously mentioned, Kokum butter is extremely hydrating and prevents dryness. It is known to support hair growth and strengthen the hair follicles. The nutrients provided from the fatty acids and vitamin contribute to a thicker and more lustrous hair. As it is light weight, it quickly absorbs and does not weigh down the strands.
With all of these amazing properties, give Kokum butter a try. Personally, it is part of my hair moisturizing routine and I love it. Chances are, you’ll enjoy it as much as I.
